The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has launched emergency repair works on four transmission towers along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line following a fresh wave of vandalism.
According to a statement issued by management on Monday, engineers from the Port Harcourt Region discovered the damage on August 6, 2026, during a routine line inspection.
The compromised structures, designated as Towers T50 to T53, suffered extensive structural damage after vital components were dismantled and carted away by unknown perpetrators.
TCN noted that this incident marks the fifth time the specific transmission line has been targeted by vandals in recent times, highlighting a persistent security challenge for regional power infrastructure.
The Afam-IPP-Elelenwo line plays a critical role in evacuating and wheeling power across the Niger Delta network. Attacks of this nature threaten grid stability and risk power disruptions if left unaddressed.
While rehabilitation efforts are currently underway, TCN has called on local communities and stakeholders to collaborate with security agencies to safeguard critical national assets from recurring vandalism.
