Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused thugs loyal to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) of vandalizing campaign billboards and looting shops in Effurun, Delta State.
According to a statement shared via his official X handle on Sunday, the incident occurred on Friday, September 18, 2026, in the Uvwie Local Government Area.
Keyamo alleged that the attackers targeted billboards belonging to the Tompolo Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation, before using dangerous weapons to break into and loot local shops.
The minister also condemned what he termed a selective public reaction to political violence, arguing that a similar incident involving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would have drawn widespread condemnation from the press and human rights organizations.
Drawing comparisons to recent political unrest, Keyamo referenced the blockade of Labour Party figure Peter Obi’s entourage in Benue State. While he noted that he had previously condemned the Benue incident, he maintained that the violence in Delta State was far more severe.
Furthermore, Keyamo alleged that the armed perpetrators were accompanied by law enforcement officers acting on their payroll, adding that video evidence of the incident is available.
In response to the tension, the minister urged his supporters to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He announced plans to formally submit a petition to the Inspector-General of Police this week, demanding a thorough investigation and the prosecution of those responsible.
