Drama as a 30-year-old man, Savior Sunday, has been arraigned before the Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly collecting N8 million meant for the medical treatment of his girlfriend and converting it to his personal use.
The defendant was docked before the Ikeja Magisterial District on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing, in a case filed by the Commissioner of Police.
According to the police charge sheet marked Charge No…..2026, the incident happened sometime in February, 2026, at about 1:00pm at Abule-Egba area of Lagos, within the Lagos Magisterial District.
The complainant in the matter was identified as one Michael Godwin Lucky, who was alleged to have been deceived that Juliet Sunday was in need of urgent medical treatment.
Police prosecutor alleged that Savior Sunday approached Michael Godwin Lucky with an emotional plea that his girlfriend, Juliet Sunday, was critically ill and needed N8 million for medical treatment.
Touched by the story and believing that the money was truly for the girlfriend’s survival, Michael Godwin Lucky was said to have released the sum of N8,000,000, Eight Million Naira only, to Savior Sunday for the purpose of treating Juliet Sunday.
But the money allegedly disappeared.
Police alleged that instead of using the money for the medical treatment of the said girlfriend, Juliet Sunday, Savior Sunday fraudulently converted the entire N8 million to his own personal use.
The Charge was prepared by Inspector Adeniran Adebowale, AP/NO 352372, serving at Elere Division, and approved by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Ogba, under the District Prosecutor’s Office. CSP Akindele Fatai was listed as part of the prosecution team.
The offences are stated in the charge sheet as follows:
Count One: “That you Savior Sunday ‘M’ sometime in February, 2026 at about 1PM at Abule-Egba area, in the Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N8,000,000 Eight Million Naira only for the purpose of medical treatment of one Juliet Sunday ‘F’ who is the girlfriend of Michael Godwin Lucky ‘M’ but converted the money to your own use and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 314 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
Count Two: “That you Savior Sunday ‘M’ on the same date time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did steal the sum of N8,000,000 Eight Million Naira only property of one Michael Godwin Lucky ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
When the charges were read to him in court, Savior Sunday pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor asked for a trial date while the defence counsel applied for bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that his client will not jump bail.
The court granted him bail with conditions and ordered his remand at the Correctional Center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned to a later date for mention and trial.
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
