An Upper Sharia Court sitting at Post Office in Kano has ordered the remand of Khadija Muhammad, widely known as ‘Yar Lele’, in a correctional facility pending further legal proceedings.
The defendant faces allegations of defamation and harassment following a social media post.
According to police charges presented before Justice Garba Malafa, Muhammad allegedly published a video containing statements that damaged the reputation of MD Hassan, a politician from the Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
During the court session, the charges were read to the defendant, and she entered a plea of not guilty.
Following her plea, the prosecutor, Barrister Awaisu Sani Lawan, requested additional time to assemble and present witnesses alongside supporting evidence for the case.
After considering submissions from both the prosecution and the defense, Justice Malafa ordered Muhammad to be remanded in custody.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to October 14, 2026, for the continuation of the trial and further hearings.
