BREAKING: Heavy Blow Xabi Alonso’s Side As Brentford Humiliate Chelsea In Premier League Weekend Opener
Chelsea’s poor recent form in the Premier League has continued with the Blues beaten by Brentford 3-0 on Friday evening.
Xabi Alonso’s side have now been beaten in two of their last three top-flight games with Jaidon Anthony’s second-half header and late goals from Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho ensuring a miserable night for the visitors.
It was a quiet first-half at the Gtech Community Stadium. Brentford occasionally posed a threat from long throws while the Blues had a couple of chances through Pedro Neto and Morgan Rogers but the two teams went in all square in a rainy west London.
And with virtually the last kick of the game, Fabio Carvalho scored his first Premier League goal since his near-year-long injury lay-off after tucking home Schade’s cross while unmarked at the far post.
Chelsea have now conceded 12 goals – the most in the league – from five Premier League games as the wait for their first top-flight clean sheet of the season goes on.
Unimpressive in defence, but in attack, Chelsea weren’t much better – clearly missing the injured Joao Pedro, with replacement Danny Welbeck failing to generate any clear chances in his place.
Moises Caicedo was another big miss, with his replacement being Jordan Henderson, who made an unsuccessful first start for the Blues at the club he joined them from.
