The University of Ilorin has made it to the 2026 Millennium Fellowship Class, with 131 undergraduate students selected for the prestigious global leadership programme focused on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
The Millennium Fellowship is organized by the United Nations Academic Impact, UNAI, and the Millennium Campus Network, MCN.
Speaking with the UNILORIN Bulletin penultimate Friday, September 11, 2026, Dr. Nusirat Aderinsola Sadiku, who is supporting the Fellows at the University and was nominated as the Campus Point of Contact, POC, and Associate Member of the Millennium Campus Network and Civic Learning Council, said the selection gives the students opportunity to join a global network of young leaders.
Dr. Sadiku explained that the 2026 cohort comprises more than 5,500 Fellows from over 330 campuses across 60 countries and territories, selected from a record pool of over 76,000 applicants from more than 6,000 campuses worldwide.
“The four-month fellowship brings together young people committed to addressing pressing challenges in their communities while contributing to the achievement of the 17 SDGs,” she said.
She disclosed that the UNILORIN Fellows will work on projects collectively advancing all 17 SDGs, while gaining leadership experience, global exposure and practical skills.
“Through the Fellowship, the students aim to gain leadership skills, global exposure and practical experience in advancing the SDGs, particularly SDG 3 – Health, SDG 6 – Water and Sanitation, and SDG 13 – Climate Action,” Dr. Sadiku added.
The inclusion of UNILORIN in the 2026 cohort places its student Fellows within a global community of young changemakers translating ideas into practical actions across campuses and communities around the world.
