Gunmen have murdered and beheaded the village head of the Lafagu community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement officers have apprehended multiple suspects in connection with the killing. Police authorities indicated that further details will be released once investigations conclude.
While official motives remain under review, local sources suggest the attack stems from escalating communal friction rather than typical banditry or insurgent activity.
According to community source Tukur Kaoje, long-standing ethnic groups in the area have faced heightened tensions over cattle rustling and kidnappings. Kaoje noted that recent retaliatory actions between local armed groups and pastoralist communities have severely strained regional security.
Residents report that the atmosphere in Lafagu and surrounding villages remains tense, prompting urgent calls for government and security intervention to prevent a wider spiral of retaliatory violence.
