The Victim of The Abuse, 7-Year Ofoma
Guard Time Information (GTI), Human Rights Activists Nationwide, and the Anambra State Police Command, have strongly condemned the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl, Oluebube Ofoma, in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Command, according to the rights group, received a report on the evening of September 13, 2026, concerning the alleged abuse of the child and the severe bodily injuries she reportedly sustained.
Following the prompt intervention of security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, alongside concerned residents, the child was rescued from further harm, while her mother, Mrs. Ogechi Ofoma, aged 32, was arrested in connection with the alleged incident.
Preliminary information indicates that the seven-year-old victim was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, including injuries reportedly inflicted with a hot knife. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by the Police.
The State CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has equally commenced collaboration with the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare and Guard Time Information (GTI), Human Rights Activists Nationwide, to ensure that the victim receives urgent and appropriate medical attention, protection, counselling and other necessary welfare support.
The Anambra State Police Command commended the vigilance, courage and public-spirited intervention of the Ibollo Community security personnel and residents whose swift response helped rescue the child and enabled immediate police intervention.
The Command further assured the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally, thoroughly and in accordance with the law. The safety, welfare and best interests of the child remain paramount, and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full consequences of the law.
Speaking on the development, Comrade Bibi Oduku, Chairman of Guard Time Information GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide, condemned the alleged abuse and called for justice for the victim.
Comrade Oduku stated that GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide legal team in Anambra State will closely follow up on the matter and work with the relevant authorities to ensure that the rights and welfare of the child are protected and that justice is served in accordance with the law.
He further stressed that the case should serve as a strong reminder that child abuse, torture and all forms of violence against children are unacceptable and must not be tolerated in any community.
According to him, GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide will continue to support initiatives aimed at protecting children, promoting human rights and strengthening public awareness of child-rights protection across Nigeria.
GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide therefore calls on parents, guardians, community leaders, security agencies and relevant government institutions to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected case of child abuse or violence against vulnerable persons to the appropriate authorities.
The protection of every child is a collective responsibility, and every child deserves to live in safety, dignity and freedom from violence and abuse.
