POLICE NAB SUSPECTS OVER THEFT, VIOLENT ATTACK, DRUG-RELATED OFFENCES IN YOBE

The development was revealed in a statement issued on June 23, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

According to the statement, the Command’s intelligence-driven policing strategy, strengthened community partnerships and proactive security measures have continued to deliver positive results in efforts to curb criminal activities and maintain public safety.

In one of the operations, officers attached to the Garin Alkali Division responded to a distress call reporting the theft of renovation materials from Daskum Primary School in Bursari Local Government Area. Acting swiftly on the information, police operatives intercepted a 25-year-old suspect, Musa Musa of Daskum Village, Masaba Ward, along the Gashua Road while allegedly transporting stolen building materials, including iron rods, from the school premises.

The police also recovered a black TVS motorcycle believed to have been used during the commission of the offence. The motorcycle bears chassis number MD625NF58M1P26434 and engine number JF5AN1401305. However, the rider, identified only as Alhaji, escaped from the scene and efforts are underway to track him down.

The Command disclosed that the suspect has been charged to court, while investigations continue to identify and arrest other individuals connected to the incident.

In a separate case, operatives of A Division, Damaturu, arrested two young men following a violent altercation involving the use of a dangerous weapon. The suspects, identified as Adam Maigaimu, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 18, were taken into custody after allegedly engaging in a fight with an axe, resulting in serious injuries.

Further investigations reportedly linked the duo to the theft of a ram belonging to a complainant. Police said the stolen animal was allegedly sold and the proceeds diverted for personal use. The axe used during the attack was recovered and retained as evidence, while investigations remain ongoing.

Meanwhile, officers attached to the Nguru Division carried out a targeted raid on a suspected criminal hideout located in Anguwar Yan Rake. The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects who were allegedly found in possession of substances suspected to be hard drugs.

Reacting to the successes recorded, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents. He directed Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders and other personnel to intensify visible policing, deepen community engagement and sustain aggressive operations aimed at denying criminal elements the opportunity to operate within the state.
