LAGOS POLICE INTERCEPT 47 SACKS OF MILITARY CAMOUFLAGE UNIFORMS, CARTONS OF SUSPECTED ILLICIT SUBSTANCES

The seizure was disclosed on Tuesday by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

According to the police commissioner, the operation was carried out by officers attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after receiving intelligence about the movement of the consignment. He said the truck transporting the items was allegedly heading to the South-East region of the country.

Fatai revealed that four suspects were arrested during the operation and are currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to uncover those responsible for the shipment and its intended destination.

“This was intercepted by operatives of the tactical team while it was being moved out of Lagos State. We received intelligence on the movement and immediately swung into action. The vehicle conveying the sacks was headed from Lagos to a destination in the South-East.

“Following the intelligence, the vehicle was intercepted and those transporting the items were arrested. They are currently in our custody and investigations are ongoing,” Fatai said.

The commissioner further disclosed that officers discovered cartons of suspected illicit drugs being transported alongside the military camouflage uniforms.

He noted that investigations remain ongoing to determine the source of the items, their intended use and those connected to the operation.

“Areas where we have seen these bandits, we have seen them wear these uniforms all over the place, who knows what they want to do with this, nobody could tell. We are still investigating to get to the root of the matter for now,” the Police Commissioner said.

The command said further details would be made available as investigations progress and more suspects linked to the shipment are identified.
