The All Progressives Congress has announced the results of its House of Representatives primary elections conducted across the federal constituencies in Rivers State, with Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Chike Amaewhule, emerging among the leading winners.

The party had earlier disqualified four aspirants believed to be loyal to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, including three serving members of the House of Representatives, while 20 other aspirants were cleared to participate in Saturday’s primaries.

The results were announced on Saturday night at the APC Secretariat in Port Harcourt by the Chairman of the State APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee and Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Council, Federal University of Transportation, Daura, Katsina State, Wahab Owokoniran.

While some constituencies witnessed contests between two aspirants, others had sole candidates, including Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency 1 where Amaewhule emerged unopposed.

Speaking after the exercise, Owokoniran said, “This is the final declaration. We have declared 13 out of 13 federal constituency results. We want to let the whole world know that the election was conducted in a very peaceful atmosphere.”

He expressed surprise over the peaceful conduct of the primaries, contrary to perceptions that Rivers State is constantly plagued by political violence.
