PFN DECLARES THREE-DAY FASTING, PRAYER OVER INSECURITY, ECONOMIC HARDSHIP

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has announced a nationwide three-day fasting and prayer programme in response to worsening insecurity, continued bloodshed, economic hardship and growing anxiety over Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The prayer exercise is scheduled to hold from May 22 to May 24, 2026, with the Christian body saying the initiative is aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, healing, national stability, economic recovery and credible elections amid increasing violence and uncertainty across the country.

The decision was contained in a statement issued by the PFN National Publicity Secretary, Sylvanus Ukafia, after a meeting of the Fellowship’s National Executive Council.

According to the statement, the council arrived at the resolution following what it described as extensive prayerful deliberations on the state of the nation and the responsibility of the Church at a critical period in the country’s history.

“This is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation,” the Fellowship stated.

The PFN raised concerns over recurring attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as the worsening economic situation affecting millions of Nigerians nationwide.

“We believe that as the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in the affairs of our nation and grant Nigeria peace, healing, stability, and a new season of hope,” it said.

The Fellowship explained that the programme would coincide with the celebration of Global Pentecost Day and would be centred on the biblical teaching in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which urges believers to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from wrongdoing for healing to come upon the land.

It called on churches, pastors, Christian leaders, workers, youths, women and believers across the country to participate fully in the exercise.

According to the PFN, Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, would be dedicated to fasting and prayers in homes, churches and local assemblies nationwide.

The Fellowship added that Sunday, May 24, which marks Global Pentecost Day, would conclude with Christians gathering at designated venues across various states for a united national prayer assembly.

The PFN stated that prayers during the three-day programme would focus on “divine intervention for Nigeria,” restoration of peace and security, an end to bloodshed, terrorism and criminal activities, economic relief for citizens, wisdom and unity among leaders, peaceful and credible elections, and the emergence of God-fearing and patriotic leaders.

The Christian body further noted that Nigeria remained a nation filled with enormous potential and urged citizens, especially Christians, to remain united, while appealing to pastors and church leaders to mobilise their congregations and networks for active participation.
