As part of efforts to upgrade Nigeria’s transport network under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, the federal government has awarded road construction and rehabilitation contracts valued at more than N690 billion across the South-west and North-west regions.
The contracts were formally signed at the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, covering four major road projects located in Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun and Osun states. The projects will be executed using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, described the projects during the signing ceremony as critical infrastructure designed to strengthen connectivity, improve transportation and support economic activities nationwide.
He said the initiative demonstrated the federal government’s resolve to provide durable infrastructure capable of lasting for generations.
“Our vision is to build roads that will last for generations. Under the Renewed Hope administration, we are determined to deliver infrastructure that can serve Nigerians for up to 100 years through the adoption of rigid pavement (concrete) technology,” Umahi stated.yThe minister explained that the reconstruction of the Mando-Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State was especially important because it formed part of President Tinubu’s campaign commitments during the 2022/2023 election period.
Umahi also praised the contractors handling the projects, citing their track record and competence, while noting that the government was increasingly placing confidence in indigenous construction companies.
He directed the firms to move to site without delay and ensure the projects progressed according to schedule.
Among the approved projects is the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando-Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State, awarded to Messrs J. Patel and Sons Nigeria Limited at a cost of N178.1 billion.
The federal government also approved the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road connecting Oyo and Ogun states. The contract, valued at N295.9 billion, was awarded to Messrs JRB Construction Company Limited and covers 114.5 kilometres in single carriageway equivalent.
In Osun State, Messrs Truecrete Solutions Limited secured the N101.8 billion contract for the construction of the 70-kilometre Osogbo-Ikirun-Akoda Road.
Similarly, Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited will undertake the construction of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road at a cost of N114.8 billion across a distance of 73 kilometres.
