Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted bail by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja in the sum of ₦100 million with one surety in likeamount.
In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik outlined several conditions the former governor must fulfil before the bail can take effect.
The court ruled that the surety must be a resident of either Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and must submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.
The judge also stated that the surety must be a federal civil servant on Grade Level 17 or above and provide proof of salary payments for at least three months. The salary evidence must be backed by a confirmation letter issued by a bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
In addition, the surety is expected to swear to an affidavit of means, sign a bail bond, and provide a recent passport photograph at the court registry.
As part of the conditions attached to the bail, El-Rufai was ordered to surrender all valid international passports to the court.
The court further directed that the surety submit a verification letter from his or her department as well as a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
Justice Abdulmalik also ordered the former governor to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the case is concluded.
The judge warned that failure to comply with any of the conditions would result in an automatic revocation of the bail.
The court additionally instructed the defendant to provide a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
