ANAMBRA POLICE SUPPORT ABUSED 10-YEAR-OLD BOY’S MEDICAL TREATMENT

The child, whose condition sparked outrage after a video showing extensive injuries across his body circulated on social media, is currently receiving medical attention under the protection of the state authorities. The injuries were allegedly inflicted by a woman and her husband who served as his guardians.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command provided financial assistance after officers witnessed the seriousness of the boy’s condition and the pain he was enduring.

He noted that the intervention reflects the police command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, particularly children, and ensuring that victims of abuse receive the care and support they need.

“The Anambra State Police Command has provided financial support to facilitate urgent medical treatment of the 10-year old boy who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardian in Isiowulu, Anambra State.

“The Command, through its operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, Anambra State Command, while expressing concern after witnessing the severity of the child’s condition and pain, rendered support for his medical care and recovery.

“The gesture underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the society, especially children and ensuring that victims of abuse receive the necessary care and support.

“The Command has intensified its investigation into the incident and is committed to ensuring that all individuals found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

“The Police remain steadfast in enforcing laws designed to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of violence.”

Ikenga added that investigations into the alleged abuse have been strengthened, with efforts ongoing to ensure that anyone found responsible faces prosecution.

He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the command’s readiness to work closely with government agencies, child protection groups and community stakeholders to safeguard the rights and welfare of children across the state.

“The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice, compassion, and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police,” he added.
