This was revealed in a statement issued on June 17, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force joined the global community in honouring peacekeepers for their courage, professionalism, sacrifice and dedication to advancing peace and security across the world.
In his message to commemorate the occasion, IGP Disu paid tribute to peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving under the United Nations flag, noting that their sacrifices continue to inspire efforts aimed at building a safer and more peaceful world.
The police chief also highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding role in international peace support operations, noting that personnel of the Nigeria Police Force have distinguished themselves in various United Nations, African Union and regional peacekeeping missions. He said Nigerian police officers have consistently demonstrated professionalism, expertise and commitment while serving in conflict-affected areas, further strengthening Nigeria’s reputation as a responsible contributor to global peace and security.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Invest in Peace,” the IGP stressed the importance of sustained investment in peacebuilding, institutional capacity, technology and international cooperation.
“He noted that contemporary security threats, including terrorism, transnational organized crime, cyber-enabled offences, communal conflicts, and violent extremism, require innovative and collaborative approaches to peace and security management.”
IGP Disu further emphasized the need to provide peacekeepers with adequate training, skills, technology and operational resources to effectively tackle emerging security challenges. He also acknowledged the contributions of female peacekeepers and advocated greater participation and leadership opportunities for women in peace operations.
While appreciating the sacrifices of peacekeepers and their families, the Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enhancing its peacekeeping capacity and supporting initiatives that promote international peace, security and stability.
He added that the Force remains focused on advancing professionalism, capacity development and global partnerships in support of peacekeeping operations and sustainable peace worldwide.
