The Nigeria Police Force has distanced itself from the purported “AFRIPOL 2026” programme currently circulating online, declaring that the event was neither approved nor endorsed by the Force.
This was revealed in a statement issued on May 20, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
According to the statement, the police also condemned the unauthorized use of the name “AFRIPOL,” noting that AFRIPOL is an internationally recognized African Union mechanism for police cooperation and not a platform for private or unauthorized activities.
The Force further clarified that its leadership did not authorize the use of the image of the Inspector-General of Police, the official logo of the Nigeria Police Force, or any identity linked to the institution in connection with the programme.
The statement urged members of the public as well as corporate organizations to ignore the publication and avoid any sponsorship, payment, or participation related to the event.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state categorically that it did not approve, endorse, or authorize the purported ‘AFRIPOL 2026’ programme currently being circulated online.
“The Force also condemns the unauthorized use of the name ‘AFRIPOL’, which is globally recognized as the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), an official continental policing structure established under the African Union framework, and not a platform for private or unauthorized programmes.
“Furthermore, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force did not authorize the use of the image of the Inspector-General of Police, the official logo, or the identity of the Force in connection with the said programme.
“Members of the public and corporate organizations are advised to disregard the publication and refrain from any form of sponsorship, payment, or engagement relating to the said event,” the statement read.
