Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the state’s APC governorship primaries, citing the need to preserve peace, unity, and stability in the state above personal ambition.
In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, Governor Fubara said the decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates, adding that leadership sometimes requires sacrifice for the greater good of the people.
The governor noted that while many supporters may feel disappointed by the development, his actions were guided by what he described as the higher interest of Rivers State. He maintained that his silence in recent weeks had been deliberate and strategic.
Governor Fubara also hinted at having faced intense pressures and difficult choices during the political process, but stressed that his love for Rivers State outweighed every personal consideration.
He thanked members of the All Progressives Congress for their support throughout the primary process and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.
The Rivers State governor urged party faithful to remain loyal and united behind whoever emerges as the APC candidate, describing the party as a collective home for all members.
Governor Fubara further clarified that his decision to step aside from the governorship race was neither out of fear nor weakness, but borne out of conviction and a desire to ensure peace and unity in Rivers State.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State diligently until the end of his tenure.
