The demolition came in the aftermath of security operations launched in the area following the successful rescue of the victims by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
On Sunday, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State visited the deserted hideout at Lakoun, which investigators identified as the location where the victims were reportedly kept before being freed.
The inspection followed the rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister of Chief Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, by security operatives.
The victims regained their freedom on Saturday after police personnel engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun duel during a coordinated rescue mission.
The operation, carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6, 2026, was the result of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical deployment by security agencies.
Security sources disclosed that two suspected kidnappers were killed during the exchange of gunfire, while two firearms were recovered from the criminals. The victims were rescued unharmed.
The development also led to an intensive search for other members of the gang who escaped from the scene, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Mrs. John-Paul and her sons were abducted on June 3 while travelling within Ibadan. Witnesses said the attackers carried out a coordinated operation, blocking their vehicle before forcefully taking them away.
A video recorded shortly after the incident showed a red Toyota Camry abandoned by the roadside with its doors left open as shocked residents gathered around the scene.
The Adelabu family later confirmed the abduction, describing the incident as traumatic and calling on security agencies to act swiftly.
Before her retirement last year, Mrs. John-Paul had worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. She subsequently relocated to Ibadan with her children and was reportedly making arrangements to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who resides in the United States.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations into the case as efforts intensify to track down and dismantle the remaining members of the kidnapping syndicate operating in the area.
