SENATE COMMITTEE SCREENS ZAINAB MARWA FOR NDDC BOARD APPOINTMENT

During the screening exercise, the committee, chaired by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, questioned the nominee on the experience, expertise, and vision she intends to bring to the interventionist agency, particularly in the areas of transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery.

Marwa, daughter of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Marwa, told lawmakers that her diverse educational and professional background has equipped her with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the Commission’s mandate.

According to her, she would bring a holistic perspective to the NDDC, drawing from her experience in law, public service, management, gender advocacy, strategy execution, and evidence-based policymaking.

She pledged to promote accountability by ensuring that policies and programmes are aligned with the needs of host communities, while also driving reforms that would guarantee the effective implementation of projects and interventions.

The nominee further emphasized her commitment to gender-responsive development, noting that equity and inclusiveness would remain central to her approach.

Marwa highlighted her academic credentials, including a Law degree from the University of Buckingham, a Master’s degree in Service Management, a PhD in Gender Studies from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as well as executive certifications from the Harvard Kennedy School and the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford.

Members of the committee expressed satisfaction with the nominee’s curriculum vitae, qualifications, and professional experience.

The committee is expected to submit its report and recommendations to the Senate in plenary for further legislative consideration.
