EFCC ARRAIGNS SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER BLESSING CEO OVER ALLEGED N13 MILLION CANCER SCAM

The defendant was arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Yelim Bogoro on a six-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and forgery.

According to the EFCC, the charges followed petitions from individuals and groups, including the Nigeria Cancer Society, after Blessing CEO allegedly claimed on social media that she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer and needed financial assistance for treatment.

The Commission alleged that members of the public donated about 13 million naira to her based on the claims, which investigators later discovered to be false.

The EFCC further accused the influencer of allegedly forging a medical report titled “Histopathology/Cytopathology Report,” purportedly issued by Xinus Medical Diagnostics, to support her claims and obtain financial benefit from unsuspecting Nigerians.

One of the charges stated that the defendant fraudulently obtained N13 million from members of the public under the false pretence of suffering from a terminal illness.

Blessing CEO pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following her plea, prosecution counsel, H.U. KofarNaisa, asked the court for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in custody.

Defence counsel, Stanley Ofoegbu, however, appealed for a short adjournment to allow the filing of a bail application.

Justice Bogoro subsequently adjourned the matter until September 24, 2026, for commencement of trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre.
