ALLI DENIES LINK TO ADELABU’S SISTER’S ABDUCTION, SLAMS REPORTS AS POLITICAL BLACKMAIL

The lawmaker dismissed reports circulating on social media that attempted to connect him to the kidnapping, describing the allegations as “false, malicious, baseless, irresponsible, defamatory, and politically motivated.”

His position was contained in a statement issued by his media office and shared on his X account on Sunday.

Mrs Adegoke was kidnapped on the morning of June 3, 2026, while taking her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, to school in Ibadan. Armed men reportedly intercepted their vehicle in the Elewura area and took the trio captive before they were eventually rescued on Saturday.

In the statement, Alli, who recently defeated Adelabu in the APC governorship primary, rejected claims linking him to the incident, insisting that the allegations were founded on unverified assertions reportedly made by a suspect currently under investigation.

The statement maintained that it was unreasonable to associate the senator with criminal activities based on claims that had not been substantiated by investigators.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has no connection whatsoever with the said criminal incident, the individuals mentioned, or any activity related to kidnapping or violence,” the statement read.

The senator’s media office further alleged that efforts to connect campaign stickers and political materials to the crime formed part of a coordinated attempt by opponents to damage his reputation.

“We note with concern that even the report itself admitted that no security agency has established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.

“It is therefore disturbing that faceless propagandists would deliberately weaponise unconfirmed claims to mislead the public and heat up the polity,” the statement said.

Alli reiterated his condemnation of kidnapping and other criminal acts, noting that he has consistently supported initiatives aimed at improving security and safeguarding lives and property across Oyo State and the country.

The statement urged the public to disregard the allegations and refrain from spreading information capable of undermining ongoing investigations or creating unnecessary political tension.

It also called on security agencies to identify those behind the reports and ensure that individuals responsible for spreading false information and engaging in political blackmail are held accountable.

According to the statement, the senator remains committed to his legislative responsibilities and focused on serving the people of Oyo State.

The victims were rescued unharmed on June 6 during a coordinated operation carried out by the Nigeria Police Force’s Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team in Ibadan. Security operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, during which two suspects were killed and weapons were recovered.
