POLICE FOIL KIDNAP ATTEMPT IN ABUJA, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE

This was revealed in a statement issued on June 5, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected kidnappers around the Redeemed Church area of Byazhin, near Paze Hills, in the early hours of Thursday.

The operation, led by the Officer Commanding the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, was launched at about 12:34 a.m. after security personnel received information about suspicious activities in the area.

On reaching the location, the operatives reportedly discovered that the armed suspects were attempting to force their way into a residence with the intention of abducting the occupants.

The statement said the suspects opened fire immediately after sighting the police team, prompting a swift response from the operatives.

A fierce exchange of gunfire lasting more than 30 minutes followed, during which the officers successfully repelled the attackers and prevented the abduction.

The suspects were said to have fled into nearby bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

Items recovered at the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition.

The intended victims, identified as Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed and moved to safety by the police.

They were later taken to General Hospital Gwarinpa, where they received treatment for trauma-related distress before being placed under protective custody.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, commended the officers involved in the operation for their courage and professionalism.

He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory and directed increased surveillance patrols in the area to prevent further criminal activities.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against crime and criminality.
