This was revealed in a statement issued on June 15, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, following the IGP’s working visit to Jigawa State.

During the visit, Disu paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, participated in the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council in Dutse, and later met with officers and men of the Jigawa State Police Command.

Addressing members of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, the police chief praised the council under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for its role in fostering dialogue, unity, and peaceful coexistence across the region.

He highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in intelligence gathering, conflict management, community engagement, and early warning systems, noting that sustained cooperation between traditional institutions and security agencies remains crucial to tackling insecurity and driving development in Northern Nigeria.

During discussions with Governor Namadi, the Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining a strong partnership with the Jigawa State Government and other stakeholders in enhancing public safety and expanding community policing initiatives across the state.

Speaking to officers and personnel of the Jigawa State Police Command, Disu commended them for their dedication and service in preserving peace and security. He assured them that the Force leadership remains focused on improving operational efficiency, personnel welfare, career advancement, and overall service delivery.

The IGP also addressed concerns over ongoing conversations regarding the proposed creation of state police, assuring officers that there was no reason for apprehension.

According to him, the proposed reform is designed to strengthen the nation’s policing structure while retaining a robust national police institution capable of handling interstate and national security challenges. He further assured personnel that their welfare, career progression, pensions, and other legitimate entitlements would be safeguarded throughout any transition process.

Disu urged officers to remain professional and disciplined in carrying out their constitutional duties, warning that the Force would continue to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, extortion, abuse of office, and other forms of misconduct.

He also encouraged personnel to strengthen ties with communities, adopt intelligence-led policing strategies, and maintain the highest standards of integrity while respecting human rights.

The statement added that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to building public confidence, improving operational effectiveness, and working closely with governments, traditional institutions, communities, and other stakeholders to advance peace, security, and national development.
