The monarch was abducted under circumstances that have not yet been fully disclosed, with his captors later demanding a ransom of ₦21 million, two brand-new motorcycles, and a jerrycan of petrol for his release.
Despite desperate attempts to negotiate his freedom, the situation took a tragic turn, as the kidnappers failed to release him alive.
The development was confirmed in an emotional voice message circulated by a member of the community committee involved in efforts to secure his release.
In the message, the committee member explained that family members, community leaders, religious clerics, and other stakeholders made repeated efforts to bring the kidnapped monarch home, but all proved unsuccessful.
He said the community had continued prayers, consultations, and search efforts since last week, holding on to hope that the traditional ruler would return safely, but the outcome was devastating.
The committee member urged residents of Olayinka community to accept the incident as the will of God and to remain steadfast in faith, stressing that every soul will eventually return to its Creator.
He also called on both Muslim and Christian faithful in the community to stand together in unity during the period of mourning.
According to him, arrangements had already been concluded for Islamic funeral prayers for the late monarch, even though his body has not been recovered.
He explained that Islamic rites could still be observed in the absence of a body and encouraged members of the Olayinka Muslim community in Lagos to gather for prayers in honour of the deceased ruler.
The death of the kidnapped traditional ruler has thrown Olayinka community into deep mourning and renewed concern over the worsening insecurity and rising cases of abductions across parts of the country.
