WORLD CUP: TUNISIA APPOINT RENARD AS NEW COACH AFTER SWEDEN HUMILIATION

The decision was announced on national television on Monday, with the Tunisian Football Federation confirming that an agreement had been reached with the former Saudi Arabia and France women’s team coach.

Renard is widely known for guiding Saudi Arabia to a stunning victory over eventual champions Argentina during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He later took charge of the France women’s national team.

Announcing the appointment, the Tunisian public broadcaster quoted the federation president, Moez Nassari, as saying: “The president of the Tunisian Football Federation, Moez Nassari, announced that an official agreement had been reached with French coach Herve Renard for him to take charge of the national football team until the end of the 2026 World Cup.”

Lamouchi, a former French international, had only been appointed in January but paid the price for Tunisia’s poor showing against Sweden.

The North Africans now face an uphill battle in Group F as they seek qualification for the knockout stage. Their next fixture comes against Japan on Saturday, with hopes of reviving their campaign after the heavy setback.
