The Command said the breakthrough followed a swift response by officers attached to the Maitama Division after receiving a report of the theft on June 20, 2026.
According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Maitama Division, CSP Altine Daniel, received a distress call at about 1:45 p.m. informing him that a white Toyota Hilux, a 2014 model with registration number BWR 712 CV, had been stolen from the Wuse II area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The DPO immediately led a team of officers to the scene, where the owner reported that the vehicle had been parked at about 1:30 p.m. but was discovered missing roughly four minutes later. An unidentified individual was reportedly seen driving the vehicle away.
In response, the Command alerted police formations and operatives stationed along entry and exit routes within the FCT, directing them to carry out stop-and-search operations to prevent the stolen vehicle from leaving the territory.
The police said the operation was aided by digital tracking technology, which enabled officers to trace the vehicle to Kubacha in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The vehicle was recovered at about 3:30 p.m. on the same day, while one suspect was arrested in connection with the theft.
The recovered vehicle and the suspect are currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other persons who may have been involved.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt measures to safeguard their vehicles and other valuables. He advised vehicle owners to install functional tracking devices, avoid leaving valuables unattended inside vehicles and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh.
