According to a statement issued on June 26,2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the exercise is designed for officers from the rank of Constable to Sergeant and covers key aspects of policing, including weapons handling, the lawful use of force, applicable laws, the Police Social Media Policy, human rights, and community policing strategies.
The statement explained that the programme is being facilitated by resource persons drawn from police training institutions as well as the civilian academic community to promote effective knowledge transfer and equip officers with the skills needed to address modern policing challenges.
It noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, to reposition the Nigeria Police Force through enhanced personnel capacity, improved response to emerging security threats, and better quality service delivery.
The Command said continuous training remains a key priority of the Force, as it enables officers to refresh their professional knowledge, strengthen operational competence, improve service standards, and sustain the fight against crime. It added that the programme also contributes to boosting officers’ morale, welfare, and stress management capacity.
The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, psc, mspsp, has approved the participation of more than 700 personnel drawn from Area Commands, Divisions, and other formations across the state to ensure broad-based capacity development in line with the Command’s renewed crime-fighting strategies and commitment to public safety.
It added that the ongoing exercise is the first phase of a continuous capacity-building programme that will eventually cover all personnel across the Command. Future sessions will focus on specialised areas, including Improvised Explosive Device (IED) management, Counter Terrorism, Intelligence-led Policing, and other emerging security concerns.
