VIRAL ASSAULT VIDEO: IMO POLICE IDENTIFY SIX OFFICERS, BEGIN INVESTIGATION

This was revealed in a statement issued on June 24, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Henry Okoye.

According to the statement, the Command became aware of the video circulating on social media and immediately reviewed the incident, which reportedly occurred on June 22, 2026.

Following the review, the officers involved were identified as Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu and Corporal Amos Sunny.

The statement disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct.

The Command further stated that the officers have been taken into custody while disciplinary procedures have commenced in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, the police command stressed that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, unprofessional behaviour and violations of citizens’ rights.

According to the statement, the actions of the officers seen in the video do not reflect the values, ethics and professional standards expected of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the matter would be handled thoroughly and transparently in accordance with established procedures.

The statement added that the outcome of the investigation and disciplinary process would be made public upon conclusion.
