Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
The appointment was announced on Thursday as the ADC unveiled its campaign structure ahead of the election. Kashim Ibrahim-Imam was named Chairman of the council, while Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu was appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager.
According to the campaign structure, Akobundu will oversee the day-to-day coordination of campaign activities and operations across the country, while El-Rufai will handle high-level political coordination and engagement with key stakeholders.
The campaign council is structured around six major operational directorates, with Deputy Directors-General and directors assigned specific responsibilities. Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu was named Deputy Director-General of Media and Communications, while former Senator Dino Melaye will be involved in national mobilisation and outreach.
El-Rufai’s appointment comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the former governor. Reports on Thursday said he remains under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations linked to his tenure as Kaduna governor. El-Rufai has denied wrongdoing in relation to the allegations.
The campaign council is part of the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the party saying its structure is intended to provide defined responsibilities and coordinated operations across its campaign machinery.
