Success Jack, chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned that any strategy to manipulate the 2027 presidential election outcome in the state will meet stiff resistance.
Jack’s remarks come in response to statements by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, who claimed that he and his allies successfully blocked Labour Party candidate Peter Obi from winning Rivers State during the 2023 general elections.
Despite Wike’s comments, Jack asserted that the NDC remains unconcerned, emphasizing that the electoral landscape has evolved significantly since 2023. He argued that handwriting election results is no longer feasible because voters are prepared to safeguard their ballots.
According to Jack, active citizen participation and electronic transmission protocols will neutralize tactical interference at polling units and collation centers.
“What the Minister said doesn’t worry me a bit because the electoral system has changed. I heard of some magic they want to do, but I doubt if that will be possible,” Jack stated.
He further dismissed concerns regarding potential voter intimidation by security personnel, expressing confidence that personnel will not act to suppress entire polling stations.
“Whatever the Minister said, I wish him well, but not in our Rivers State,” he added.
