Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated that he harbors no desire for revenge or retribution against former allies and associates who distanced themselves during his ongoing legal challenges.
El-Rufai, who has faced detention and corruption investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) concerning his tenure in office, addressed the public in a written statement titled ‘My Relationships and the Aftermath’.
Responding to public discussions regarding the silence of political figures and friends he previously supported, the former governor insisted that his past actions were driven by personal principle and faith rather than an expectation of reciprocity.
“Over the years, I have stood by people and for causes I believed in, sometimes in difficult circumstances and at considerable personal cost,” El-Rufai wrote. “I did so not in expectation of praise, gratitude or reciprocity, but because I believed it was right.”
While noting that adversity has a way of illuminating relationships, El-Rufai emphasized that he bears no malice toward those who chose not to stand by him in his current predicament.
“As for any injustice, ingratitude or injury done to me, I seek neither revenge nor retribution,” he stated. “Ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah, and I leave that judgment to Him, in this world and in the Hereafter.”
Concluding his statement, the former governor maintained that his primary focus is preserving his personal integrity, adding that he remains at peace with his conscience and his faith.
