Six political parties in Benue State have rallied behind Senator Abba Moro ahead of the 2027 senatorial election in Benue South, signalling a fresh political alignment in the district.
The parties — APP, the Abure faction of the Labour Party, ADC Legacy, NNPP, ZLP and NRM — made their position known at a stakeholders’ meeting held at LECH Hotel in Otukpo.
The meeting brought together party leaders, local government chairmen, women leaders and youth leaders, with participants discussing plans for coordinated grassroots mobilisation in support of Moro’s re-election.
Addressing the gathering, the group’s leader, Comrade Ogbe, said Benue South could not afford what he described as a “one-way traffic” political environment. He argued that the zone needed a strong opposition voice capable of demanding accountability and development.
Ogbe also challenged other politicians seeking the senatorial seat to present their records and explain what they would do differently from Moro.
The meeting also highlighted divisions within the ADC, with Hon. Elias Adikwu, identified as the Legacy ADC State Chairman, declaring support for the mobilisation and referring to the ongoing legal dispute over the party’s leadership.
The Abure faction of the Labour Party, led at the meeting by Comrade Idoko Ibrahim, also joined the mobilisation effort.
The development adds another dimension to the political contest in Benue South as parties and political groups begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
