A Washington-based advocacy and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has claimed that the United States government rejected requests by President Bola Tinubu to secure a bilateral meeting and political endorsement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the firm, President Tinubu’s primary objective for planning an appearance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was to arrange an encounter with US President Donald Trump. However, in a post shared on its verified X handle, the organization stated that the proposed White House engagement and any expected endorsement are now off the table.
The firm asserted that the lobbying efforts which it alleged cost millions of dollars failed to materialize after American officials reportedly declined the engagement.
The claims follow the presidency’s confirmation that President Tinubu will not physically attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, choosing instead to dispatch Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead the Nigerian delegation.
Political analysts note that the advocacy firm has previously been linked to opposition political figures in Nigeria, and the assertions remain unverified by official Washington or Nigerian government channels.
