David Oyedepo has cautioned young people against the growing obsession with quick wealth, warning that many in the current generation have abandoned the principle of gradual growth and hard work.
The presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide made the statement during a recent sermon shared on YouTube, where he emphasized that genuine success follows a gradual process rather than instant gains.
According to the cleric, many youths today seek shortcuts to wealth through betting, internet fraud, and other risky ventures because they no longer believe in steady progress.
“This generation doesn’t believe in it. So they all are betting – Niger Bet and all kinds of stuff, computer scams and many other things,” Oyedepo said.
Explaining his point, the bishop noted that God created the human race beginning with a man and a woman, even though He knew the world would eventually contain billions of people. The process, he said, demonstrates the divine principle of gradual increase.
Oyedepo further compared life and career growth to climbing a ladder step by step. According to him, even individuals with excellent academic qualifications must start from entry-level positions before rising to leadership roles.
“You don’t become a managing director in a commercial bank because you graduated with a first class in banking and finance. You start somewhere and grow step by step,” he explained.
Drawing from biblical teachings, the cleric cited Proverbs 20:21, which warns that an inheritance gained hastily at the beginning may not be blessed in the end.
He urged young people to embrace patience, discipline, and consistent effort in their pursuit of success rather than chasing unrealistic shortcuts.
The bishop also encouraged entrepreneurs and professionals not to despise humble beginnings, noting that great achievements are built through persistence over time.
Oyedepo concluded by reminding believers that success is not merely a destination but an ongoing journey that requires dedication, faith, and steady progress......…
