IGP ORDERS MASS REDEPLOYMENT OF DELTA POLICE OFFICERS AFTER KILLING SPARKS OUTRAGE

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed the large-scale transfer of more than 1,300 officers from the Delta State Police Command following a controversial killing that has drawn widespread public anger.

The action follows the death of a 28-year-old man in Effurun, Delta State. The incident, which was recorded and circulated on social media, triggered strong reactions across the country.

Reports indicate that the victim was restrained before being shot at close range by a police officer, an act widely described as a breach of operational guidelines and human rights standards.

In the immediate aftermath, police authorities took steps to address the situation, with the officer allegedly responsible arrested and moved to the Force Headquarters for disciplinary proceedings.

As part of wider internal measures, the IGP also ordered the redeployment of officers attached to the Delta Command, a decision seen as an effort to rebuild public confidence and reinforce accountability within the force.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, stressing that any officer found culpable in unlawful acts will face both disciplinary and legal consequences.

The development continues to generate reactions nationwide, with civil society organisations and members of the public calling for justice and renewed reforms to tackle police brutality.
