The Federal Government has announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who also congratulated workers nationwide for their contributions to the country’s development.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister praised Nigerian workers for their dedication and role in driving national progress.
“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day.
“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration.
“The Minister commended Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication to national development. He noted that their efforts are essential for the nation’s growth and prosperity,” the statement read.
Tunji-Ojo reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare and security, while also promoting an environment that supports economic growth.
He further urged Nigerians to observe the holiday peacefully, remain law-abiding, and reflect on the values of unity, diligence, and patrLliotism.
