JAMB FIXES MAY 11 FOR 2026 ADMISSIONS POLICY MEETING IN ABUJA

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has scheduled its 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions for Monday, May 11, where key decisions guiding the next admission cycle are expected to be finalised.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said the meeting will address crucial issues, including the determination of minimum cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The high-level gathering will hold at the Body of Benchers Auditorium, bringing together major players in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

Benjamin explained that the annual meeting serves as a central platform where admission policies are reviewed and approved, with stakeholders agreeing on acceptable UTME scores and other guidelines that will shape admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

He added that the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, is expected to unveil new policy directions during the session.

“The board’s annual policy meeting on admissions is a crucial annual gathering where stakeholders decide minimum tolerable UTME marks, admission guidelines, and policies for tertiary institutions.

“Furthermore, the meeting is expected to, in particular, formally set the tone for the 2026/2027 admission exercise while impressing on attendees the need to adhere strictly to stipulated guidelines.

“Attendees at the 2026 meeting would include critical stakeholders such as vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars and their admission officers.

“Others are regulatory bodies ranging from the National Universities Commission, National Commission for Colleges of Education, to the National Board for Technical Education, among others.”

The board also noted that goodwill messages will be delivered by several agencies, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the National Youth Service Corps, alongside other stakeholders in the education sector.

In addition, the meeting will host the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards, designed to encourage strict compliance with admission regulations and improve standards across tertiary institutions nationwide.
