According to a report by Punch on Sunday, March 8, 2026, Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has called on President Bola Tinubu to provide regular briefings to Nigerians on the efforts being made to address insurgency and banditry across the country.
Ndume made the appeal in a statement released on Sunday following renewed violence in parts of Borno State.
His comments come amid heightened concern over recent attacks in Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area.
Last Wednesday, insurgents believed to be members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province reportedly carried out coordinated attacks on Ngoshe.
According to available reports, the attackers first targeted a military base belonging to the 82 Division Task Force Battalion before advancing into the community.
During the assault, some soldiers were killed. The town’s Chief Imam and several community elders were also reported to have lost their lives in the violence.
After the initial confrontation at the military formation, the insurgents were said to have moved into the community and later stormed an Internally Displaced Persons camp.
The incident reportedly resulted in the abduction of more than 100 women and children.
The scale of the attack has renewed concerns about the security situation in the North-East region, particularly in border communities that have previously experienced insurgent activities.
The Federal Government had, in November last year, declared a nationwide security emergency and ordered additional recruitment into the Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen military operations.
The renewed violence in Ngoshe has prompted calls for further action and improved coordination.
Ndume, a former Senate Leader and a native of the affected area, urged the President to ensure that the declaration of a security emergency is supported by sustained military operations targeting insurgent strongholds.
He said, “Since the President declared a state of emergency, he should have a situation room in his office in the Villa. He should use that to brief Nigerians directly. They want to hear from him from time to time.”.....…
