Human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has stated that those labeling Reno Omokri as Igbo are speaking from a position of ignorance.
This clarification came on Thursday, March 5, 2026, via a post on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a user who suggested that Omokri’s constant criticism of Peter Obi was a case of an Igbo man mocking his own kinsman.
Farotimi corrected the record by identifying Omokri as Itsekiri, further remarking that he doubted Omokri’s own ethnic group would be pleased to be identified with him given his current public reputation.
He wrote, “You come in ignorance. Reno is NOT Igbo, he is Itsekiri, and I doubt that even his kinsmen are happy to be identified with him.”
Since Peter Obi’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election, Reno Omokri has reinvented himself as a chief antagonist of the former Anambra State Governor.
While Omokri served as a media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, his focus has shifted almost entirely toward dismantling the “Obidient” movement.
Omokri’s critiques are often data-driven and relentless, focusing on discrepancies in Obi’s claims regarding his achievements in office.
He frequently challenges Obi’s statistics on poverty, security, and economic growth, branding many of the Labour Party leader’s assertions as “pathological lies.”
