POLICE CONFIRM THREE KILLED AS BANDITS ATTACK NIGER COMMUNITY

The Niger State Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the assailants reportedly invading the community and setting several houses ablaze.

Speaking on the development, the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said security forces responded to the attack, while efforts were ongoing to obtain more details about the confrontation between the attackers and the military.

“The report received indicated that suspected bandits invaded Pissa village in Borgu LGA.

“Three persons were reportedly killed during the attack, and some houses were set ablaze.

“However, the military responded and engaged the terrorists, but further details are still sketchy,” he said.

The latest attack comes just days after widespread panic gripped residents of Minna, the Niger State capital, following rumours of an impending terrorist invasion.

The scare led many pupils and students to abandon classes and rush home before the close of school hours amid fears that armed groups had entered the city.

Concerned parents also contacted school authorities to verify reports that schools had been shut down because of a security threat.

However, state authorities and the police later dismissed the claims, insisting that no attack had taken place in Minna.

At the time, Abiodun assured residents that security agencies were on alert and working continuously to maintain safety across the state.

According to the police, officers were deployed to schools and other locations mentioned in the rumours, and investigations confirmed that no security breach or attack occurred in any school within Niger State.
