Adelana, aged 60 and the Baale of Ode Eriya community, was kidnapped on Friday by unidentified gunmen.
The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday, detailing how the attackers struck.
“The assailants reportedly invaded the premises under the cover of darkness and forcefully whisked the victim away through a nearby bush path to an unknown destination,” the police statement read in part.
Jimoh further explained that police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of B Division in Owo, were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.
“A full-scale search-and-rescue operation has since been launched, with police operatives combing surrounding forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes to locate and rescue the abducted community leader,” he said.
He added that security presence had been reinforced across the area and neighbouring communities to improve the chances of a successful rescue.
“Tactical deployments have also been strengthened across the area and adjoining communities to enhance operational effectiveness.”
