FCT CP GIVES DPOs 14 DAYS TO END ROBBERIES, TRAFFIC CRIMES

The directive was issued during a strategic security meeting held on Friday with the 17 DPOs operating under the Metro Area Command to assess the security situation in the nation’s capital and review measures aimed at tackling emerging threats.

The development was revealed in a statement issued on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, the police commissioner expressed concern over a number of recurring security challenges affecting the city centre, including traffic robberies, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the activities of “one chance” robbery syndicates, motorists driving against traffic, and the operations of commercial motorcyclists on major roads.

The CP also raised concerns over the vandalisation of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways and the persistent traffic congestion experienced across parts of the city.

Following the review, Sanusi ordered all affected DPOs to ensure the identified crimes are significantly reduced within two weeks, warning that officers who fail to deliver on the directive would face consequences.

He further instructed the DPOs and the Area Commander in charge of Metro Area Command to concentrate their efforts on securing the city centre, noting that he would personally oversee operations and security interventions in the suburban areas of the FCT.

The commissioner stressed that negligence and poor supervision would not be tolerated, directing the Area Commander Metro to provide strong leadership and ensure full compliance with all operational directives issued during the meeting.

The FCT Police Command also appealed to residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.

Members of the public can report emergencies or suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
