Police authorities said the tragic incident happened on June 12, 2026, at about 7 p.m. after a disagreement reportedly broke out between the young woman and the elderly victim, who was her paternal grandmother.
Investigators alleged that the suspect attacked the nonagenarian during the confrontation, striking her on the head with a wooden chair and causing severe injuries.
The matter came to the attention of the police after the suspect’s father reported the incident at the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station. Officers who responded to the report found the elderly woman lying unconscious and covered in blood.
She was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment but later died despite efforts to save her life.
Speaking on the development, the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended during the investigation and reportedly confessed to the offence.
He stated that she is still being held by the police while investigations continue, adding that she will be prosecuted once the case file is completed.
The command reassured members of the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that those responsible would face the full weight of the law.
