BREAKING: I Was An Expensive Drinker As A Child,I Never Liked Beer,I Only Drank Brandy And Whiskey— Bature

A Nigerian cleric, Reverend Christie Bature, has shared a startling account of her childhood, revealing that she consumed strong alcoholic drinks at a very young age due to her family environment.

Speaking during an interview with Glitch Africa Studio, the cleric narrated how alcohol exposure started early in her home, where drinking was normalised. According to her, the situation gradually developed into a habit that influenced her preferences even as a child.

Recounting her experience, she said, “I was an expensive drinker as a child. I never drank beer. I didn’t like beer… I only drank brandy and whiskey.” She explained that her choice of drinks set her apart, noting that she avoided locally popular beverages and instead preferred stronger and more costly options.

Bature further revealed that the drinking culture in her household began at a very early age, as her father, who struggled with alcohol addiction, introduced his children to alcohol. What started as a casual exposure later created a pattern that affected several family members.

She explained that as she grew older, her tolerance increased, which led to taking larger quantities to achieve the same effect. This, she said, culminated in a defining moment when she drank heavily before attending a church service at age 10. The incident, according to her, became a turning point that made her reconsider her actions.

The cleric noted that reflecting on her behaviour that day convinced her that alcohol was not beneficial, prompting her to stop drinking entirely. She added that the decision marked the beginning of her journey away from addiction.
