FG DECLARES MAY 27, 28 PUBLIC HOLIDAYS FOR EID-EL-KABIR

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the holiday declaration underscores the government’s recognition of the religious importance and spiritual values of the festival for millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a sacred occasion that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God and compassion toward others.

The minister also encouraged Nigerians to dedicate the festive period to prayers and reflection for national peace, unity and development.

“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement read.

He further urged citizens to uphold the values of brotherhood, peaceful coexistence national unity during the celebrations.

The Federal Government also v Muslim faithful across the country a peaceful, joyful and blessed Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
