Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), days after losing the party’s governorship primary election in Nasarawa State to Senator Aliyu Wadada.
Adamu submitted his resignation letter on Monday to party executives in Makama Ward, Lafia, bringing an end to his membership in the ruling party.
Explaining the reason behind his decision, the former police chief said the move followed recent happenings within the APC, particularly the conduct of the governorship primary election in the state.
“This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa State have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party,” he stated.
Adamu maintained that democratic values such as fairness, transparency, internal democracy and equal opportunities for all aspirants should remain the foundation of any political party, stressing that those principles were absent during the primary process.
He said, “I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members guide the affairs of any democratic political party.
“Unfortunately the event surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state.”
According to him, the decision to dump the APC came after extensive consultations with his supporters, political allies and family members, as he plans to continue pursuing his political ambition on another platform.
Despite his exit, Adamu expresed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to contribute to its development during his time as a member. He also appreciated party members at the ward, local government and state levels for the support and relationship shared throughout his stay in the APC.
