The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has taken a major step in its preparations for the upcoming general elections with the inauguration of its Selection Committee and the hosting of aspirants vying for elective positions across the country.
At a ceremony held in Abuja, the party formally inaugurated a 21-member Selection Committee tasked with overseeing the review and final consideration of candidates for governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly positions.
The committee, chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, is expected to ensure transparency, internal democracy, and credibility in the candidate selection process. Its mandate includes scrutinizing reports submitted by the National Screening Committee and various State Assembly Screening Committees before taking final decisions on all aspirants.
The inauguration, which took place at the NDC National Secretariat, was performed by the party’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson, who emphasized the need to present credible and competitive candidates for the general elections.
Party officials describe the Selection Committee as a strategic initiative developed in collaboration with the National Working Committee to position the NDC as a formidable political force, despite its relatively recent emergence.
Later in the day, the party hosted an Aspirants’ Dinner, bringing together screened aspirants and key stakeholders.
The event, also hosted by Senator Dickson, provided an opportunity for party leaders to engage directly with aspirants and reinforce unity within the party.
The NDC leadership says the gathering is part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and build a united platform, describing the party as “one closely knit family” committed to expanding its reach across Nigeria and the diaspora.
