NRC SUSPENDS WARRI–ITAKPE TRAIN SERVICE OVER TECHNICAL ISSUES

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the temporary suspension of operations on the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS), citing operational challenges and recommendations from its engineers.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Corporation explained that the decision was taken to allow for critical assessments aimed at maintaining safety and improving service delivery along the route.

“The temporary suspension has become necessary to enable the Corporation to carry out critical operational assessments aimed at ensuring continued safety, reliability, and improved service delivery on the corridor.

“The NRC regrets the inconvenience this development may cause passengers and other stakeholders, and assures the public that efforts are currently ongoing to resolve the issues within the shortest possible time.

“Passengers and intending travelers will be duly informed before the end of the week on the date for the resumption of normal train operations”, the statement said.

The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, efficient and customer-friendly railway services across the country.

The suspension comes shortly after the Federal Government announced a 50 per cent reduction in train fares for travellers during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The fare slash was disclosed in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Funsho Adebiyi.

According to the ministry, the temporary reduction is part of measures introduced by the Federal Government to ease transportation costs for Nigerians travelling for the festive season.
