APC’S RABIU AIKI WINS ZURU ASSEMBLY BY-ELECTION IN KEBBI

The result was announced at the collation centre by the Collation Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, who said Aiki secured 4,871 votes to emerge victorious in the poll.

According to the results announced, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad, garnered 168 votes.

Professor Danladi disclosed that the constituency has a total of 109,385 registered voters, while 5,156 voters were accredited to participate in the by-election.

He further stated that 5,055 valid votes were recorded, while 95 ballots were rejected during the exercise.

A breakdown of the results showed that the APC maintained a commanding lead across all 10 wards in the constituency.

In Tadurga Ward, the APC polled 226 votes against the LP’s 10 votes. Isgogo-Dago Ward recorded 116 votes for the APC and one vote for the LP, while in Rumu-Dabai-Seme Ward, the APC secured 446 votes compared to six votes for the Labour Party.

The APC also won Rikoto Ward with 475 votes against 14 votes for the LP, while in Zodi Ward, the ruling party polled 257 votes compared to 14 votes for its opponent.

At Bedi Ward, the APC scored 830 votes while the LP secured 34 votes. Senchi Ward produced 659 votes for the APC and 16 votes for the Labour Party.

Rafin Zuru Ward recorded the highest number of votes for the APC, with the party polling 1,042 votes, while the LP secured 63 votes.

In Chiroman Dabai Ward, the APC garnered 199 votes against one vote for the LP, while Manga-Ushe Ward returned 637 votes for the APC and nine votes for the Labour Party.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly following the death of the late Speaker, Muhammad Usman Zuru.

The exercise witnessed generally low voter turnout across the constituency, although voting was largely peaceful. Throughout the collation process, the APC maintained a clear advantage, eventually securing victory by a wide margin.
